Putting together a Christmas cookie box has become one of my favourite festive traditions, and this year I’ve gone all out! My 2025 box features a mix of six cookies, from classics with a trendy twist such as Biscoff Gingerbread Men, to fun new recipes like my thick and chunky Elf Mischief Munch Cookies. In this post, I’ll walk you through exactly how to create your own Christmas cookie box, from choosing recipes to assembling everything into something that looks beautifully homemade, deilcious and gift ready.

A Christmas cookie box is basically a festive selection of homemade biscuits all bundled up together in one gorgeous, giftable box. Think of it as a DIY assortment tin, but way prettier, far more personal, and filled with all your favourite Christmas flavours. Each cookie brings something different to the mix – whether it’s colour, crunch, spice, or pure chocolatey comfort. Cookie boxes make brilliant gifts for friends, neighbours, and teachers — or simply pop one on the table as a wow-factor centrepiece to share with the whole family over Christmas.

First things first, decide what cookies you want to include in your box! The fun part is mixing it up with different flavours, shapes, textures, and colours so every bite feels a little bit exciting. Think crunchy, chewy, chocolatey, nutty, colourful, and whimsical – you want a box that looks as good as it tastes. When it comes to how many types of cookies to include, it’s totally up to you. Go simple with two, keep it classic with four, or challenge yourself with a full-on festive selection of six to eight!

To save you some brainstorming, I’ve put together a few festive options below. A mix of classic favourites, playful treats, and cute little designs that are sure to make your cookie box feel extra special.

2. Plan Your Baking Day

Once you’ve picked your cookies, it’s time to plan things out so you don’t end up in a flour covered frenzy. Set aside a baking day (or split it over a couple of shorter sessions). Think about what needs chilling, what bakes quickly, and what can be made ahead. Start with the longer lasting cookies, like gingerbread or Linzers, so everything stays fresh. Remember, you don’t have to bake a full batch of every recipe; you can adjust the servings on my recipes and the ingredient list updates automatically for you. It took me two days to bake and decorate all six of mine, but that included filming and photographing, so yours will likely be much quicker. A little planning honestly makes the whole thing far more fun and far less stressful.

3. Choose the Perfect Box

Now comes the fun, picking the box to house all your festive cookies. Pictured below are two options from the Tala Naturals range. Both crates are made from natural acacia wood, they’re durable and built to last, with unique wood grain for a rustic touch. Plus, they won’t break the bank!

In the end, I used the Tala Large Acacia Crate for my Christmas cookie box, as it was just the right size to hold all six cookies. Feel free to explore the rest of the Tala  Naturals range too, there are lots of box shapes and sizes to choose from, as well as wooden serving boards and display racks, all crafted in the same lovely acacia wood.

This is the best part, watching your cookie box come to life! I found it really helpful to sketch a quick layout on paper first, just to visualise where everything might go. Line your box with parchment or tissue, then start with the bigger, chunkier cookies as your base. Followed by the more intricate shapes, then finished with the smaller bits like meringues or mini cookies to fill the gaps. Mix up colours, textures, and flavours as you go, it doesn’t need to look perfect. Once everything’s in place, wrap it up with some festive cellophane and a big red bow. Or you could keep it cute with candy cane twine. Just like that, you’ve got a gorgeous, gift ready Christmas cookie box that’s almost too pretty to eat… almost!
