Ingredients To Make Puppy Love Cupcakes (and why they’re good for your dog!)

  • Unflavoured cooked beetroot – Packed full of fibre, vitamins and antioxidants, beetroot gets a big thumbs up as a healthy snack for your dog. They also give the cupcakes a natural pink colour which is so cute! Avoid pickled, flavoured, sweetened, or tinned beetroot. A pouch of fresh, unflavoured, pre-cooked beetroot is best.
  • Eggs – A great source of protein, vitamins, minerals and healthy fats for your dog. This recipe uses 1 medium egg.
  • Natural peanut butter – A source of healthy fats, protein, vitamin B and E. You must use an all-natural 100% peanuts peanut butter, with no added sugars, palm oil or Xylitol. My go-to brand is Meridian.
  • Organic honey – Full of antimicrobial and antifungal properties that will help your dog stay happy and healthy when consumed in small quantities. In this recipe, we use organic honey to sweeten the cupcakes.
  • Flour – You can use plain all-purpose flour, but for a higher nutritional value and added fibre, try using whole wheat flour or oat flour.
  • Cream cheese – Contains calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B2, and protein, which are all beneficial to your dog, but only in very small quantities. Choose a plain unflavoured cream cheese with no added ingredients such as garlic, onion or chives.
  • Dog biscuits – Added on top of the cupcakes for a cute decoration! The heart biscuits I used were from Morrisons, but feel free to swap for your dog’s favourite treat, gravy bones, or biscuit.

Quick & Easy Puppy Cupcakes

The cupcake mixture comes together in a flash. Get ready for your dog to start sniffing around as soon as you open the jar of peanut butter!

First blitz the beetroot in a blender or food processor until smooth (or you can mash by hand). Now whisk with the egg, peanut butter and honey. Add the flour and fold until the mixture is combined. If the mixture is too thick, mix in 2-3 tablespoons of water to loosen it.

Divide the mixture between six colourful cupcake cases, filling each one to the top. Then bake for 18-20 minutes until set and firm on top. Remove and place in the fridge to cool.

Dog-friendly Peanut Butter Frosting

This two-ingredient frosting will be a huge hit with your pup! Cream cheese is perfectly safe for dogs to eat in small quantities, and peanut butter for them is like chocolate for humans… irresistible!

To make the frosting, simply whisk cold cream cheese with peanut butter until smooth and combined. I piped a little ruffle of frosting on top of each puppy cupcake to make them look extra special, but you could just spread it on top with a spoon.

Finish by placing a biscuit on top, then remove the wrappers and let your furry friends enjoy!
